• A profile, also known as a cross-section, is a side view of the land surface drawn along a selected line on a map, usually following a straight line such as A–B.
• It shows the variation in elevation of the land, including features like hills, valleys, slopes, and plains.
• Profiles help to visually represent the shape of the terrain and are useful in geographical studies, engineering, road construction, and planning.
• They are commonly constructed using contour maps and are of two types:
  • Cross profile (across a specific feature) and 
  • Longitudinal profile (along the length of a river or slope).
