1. The ‘Ministry of Health and Family Welfare’ of the Government of India opened a new department for developing alternative medicine like Ayurveda, Yoga, Naturopathy, Unani, Homoeopathy, etc.
2. Since 2009, this department has been known as the ‘Department of Ayurveda, Yoga, and Naturopathy, Unani Medicine, Siddha and Homoeopathy’ (AYUSH).
3. It is working for the development of syllabi and education of these branches of medicine, advanced research, standardization of medicine, etc.
