Why does the weather become warm during snowfall?

During snowfall, water vapour in the atmosphere freezes to form snow (ice crystals). When water vapour freezes, it releases latent heat of fusion into the surrounding air. The amount of heat released is large — about 336000 J per kg of water frozen. This released heat warms the air, so the weather becomes warm or mild during snowfall.
