उत्तर

The western coast of India receives Orographic (Relief) rainfall. This happens because the moisture-laden south-west monsoon winds coming from the Arabian Sea are forced to rise when they encounter the Western Ghats. As the air rises, it cools, and the moisture condenses, causing heavy rainfall on the windward side of the Western Ghats along the western coast. This orographic lifting results in heavy to very heavy rainfall in places like Mumbai and the surrounding areas.
