उत्तर

Women’s representation in India's national parliament is currently at an all-time high of roughly 14% in the Lok Sabha, with the average across State Assemblies hovering between 8% and 10%. Despite recent progress, these figures remain low globally, leaving India far below numerous emerging countries and global averages. In sharp contrast, grassroots representation thrives, with over 44% of women in local governments (Panchayats and Municipalities), thanks to a long-standing 33% required quota. To fix this gap at the highest levels, India approved the historic 106th Constitutional Amendment Act (Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam). This historic rule ensures a 33% reservation for women in both the Lok Sabha and State Legislative Assemblies, which will be implemented after the forthcoming census and delimitation process.
