Conversely, the goalkeeper is uniquely permitted to use their stick, kickers, leg guards, and body to stop or deflect the ball, provided it is done defensively within their own shooting circle. To ensure player safety, hockey is classified as a non-contact sport; therefore, players are not allowed to trip, push, or physically obstruct opponents, nor can they raise their sticks dangerously over the heads of other players during play.
