Characteristics of a political party are:

  1. A political party is an organised group. Each party has its own organisation.
  2. It has firm views on a variety of issues.
  3. It has a general ideological identity. For example, a party can be leftist or rightist.
  4. It represents a part of society. For example, a party may represent capitalists, poor people, the upper or the lower classes. As a result, a political party might represent a specific segment of society.
  5. A party has three components: leaders, active members, and followers.
