उत्तर

  1. The Arabian Sea branch of the S.W. monsoons strikes the western side of the Western Ghats, which receives very heavy rainfall, being on the windward side, whereas the Deccan Plateau, being on the leeward side, receives a lesser amount of rainfall.
  2. The Arabian Sea branch of the S.W. Monsoon, because of the North-South alignment of the Aravallis, runs parallel to it. As a result, it doesn’t intercept, and on the western side is a desert.
  3. The moisture-laden Bay of Bengal branch of the S.W. monsoon winds is trapped in the funnel-shaped depression of the Garo-Khasi-Jaintia hills. As a result, Mawsynram on the windward side receives the heaviest rainfall in the world, about 1200 cm, while Shillong on the leeward side receives only around 400 cm of rainfall.
