उत्तर
Area of base of cylinder = A = 300 cm2
A = 300 × 10 m2
A = 3 × 102 m2
Height (or depth) of water column = h = 6 cm
h = `6/100` m
Density of water = ρ = 1000 kg/m3
Acceleration due to gravity = g = 10 m/s2
Pressure at the base in vessel = P = hρg
ρ = `6/100xx1000xx10`
P = 600 Pa

What causes buoyant force (or upthrust) on a boat ?
Why does it happen?
A ship dips to a larger depth in fresh water as compared to marine water.
Why is the tip of an allpin made sharp?
Deduce an expression for the pressure at depth inside a liquid.
Complete the following sentence :
Pressure at a point inside the liquid is ...................... To its depth.
The S.I. unit of upthrust is :
Two spheres A and B, each of volume 100 cm3 is placed on water (density = 1.0 g cm−3). The sphere A is made of wood of density 0.3 g cm−3 and sphere B is made of iron of density 8.9 g cm−3.
- Find:
- The weight of each sphere, and
- The upthrust on each sphere.
- Which sphere will float? Give reason.
A body will sink if the weight of the body is greater than the buoyant force.
If the buoyant force is less, the object will float.
