उत्तर
Sulphuric acid is a strong oxidising agent. When it is added to carbon it oxidises carbon and the evolution of colourless gas are observed. This gas is carbon dioxide along with sulphur dioxide gas. The reaction is given as:
\[\ce{C + 2H2SO4 -> CO2↑ + 2H2O + 2SO2↑}\]
