x2 – 5x + 3x – 15 = 9

⇒ x2 – 2x – 15 = 9

⇒ x2 – 2x – 24 = 0

Step 3: Solve the quadratic

x2 – 2x – 24 = 0

⇒ (x – 6)(x + 4) = 0

⇒ x = 6 or x = – 4

Step 4: Check validity
