The following are the main issues facing global road transportation in mountainous and sweltering desert areas:
- It is challenging to build and maintain roads in areas with very rough terrain.
- Due to labour, technology, machinery, and material transportation, construction is actually very expensive.
- These roads are easily destroyed by natural disasters/calamities like landslides, windstorms, earthquakes, etc.
- Due to the availability and mobility of resources, the construction of roads takes longer in hilly/desert areas than in plain, flat lands.
- The weather in mountainous and arid regions makes it difficult to build and finish projects because work stops during periods of heavy snowfall, sandstorms, etc.
