उत्तर
A republic is a country where the head of state is elected and not hereditary and where the government is run by elected representatives. It upholds the principles of equality, liberty, and fraternity.
In India, the President is the elected head of state, chosen by an electoral college for a term of five years. Likewise, MPs and MLAs are elected by the people through regular elections.
Since India does not have a monarch and its key leaders are elected by the people, it fully satisfies the essential conditions of a republican form of government.
Hence, India is rightly called a Republic.
