∴ `"BD"/"DF" = "AC"/"CE"` ...[Property of three parallel lines and their transversals]
∴ `8/4 = 12/x`
∴ 8x = 48
∴ x = 6
∴ CE = x = 6
AE = AC + CE
∴ AE = 12 + 6
∴ AE = 18
