उत्तर
Act III is the turning point of Julius Caesar. In Scene 1, Caesar ignores the final warnings of the soothsayer and Artemidorus and reaches the Capitol. The conspirators surround him and assassinate him. Brutus’ final stab shocks Caesar, who dies with the words, ‘Et tu, Brute? Then fall, Caesar.’ Antony then cleverly gains the confidence of the conspirators and receives permission to speak at Caesar’s funeral. This becomes Brutus’ greatest political mistake.
In Scene 2, Brutus justifies Caesar’s murder through reason and temporarily wins the support of the citizens. Antony then delivers his powerful funeral speech. Using irony, emotion, Caesar’s wounds and his will, he gradually turns the crowd against the conspirators. This scene highlights the contrast between Brutus’ logical approach and Antony’s emotional and persuasive oratory.
In Scene 3, the consequences of Antony’s speech are seen. The mob becomes violent and irrational and kills Cinna the poet merely because he has the same name as Cinna the conspirator. The citizens then rush to attack the houses of the conspirators.
Thus, Act III contains the climax of the play. Caesar’s assassination, Antony’s rise to power and the fury of the Roman mob completely change the direction of the action and begin the downfall of Brutus and Cassius.
