उत्तर

Advantages of Hydroelectric Power Plants:

  1. Hydroelectric power generation does not require the burning of fuels; therefore, it does not cause air pollution or release toxic gases.
  2. Electricity can be generated whenever required, provided there is sufficient water in the reservoir.
  3. Water is a renewable resource and is replenished through rainfall.
  4. Hydroelectric power is a clean and renewable energy source.

Disadvantages of Hydroelectric Power Plants:

  1. The construction of dams and reservoirs submerges villages and settlements, displacing people.
  2. Rehabilitation of displaced people often causes social and emotional problems.
  3. Forest areas may be submerged, resulting in loss of biodiversity.
  4. Dams obstruct the natural flow of rivers, affecting aquatic plants and animals.
  5. The large pressure exerted by stored water may increase the risk of earthquakes in some regions.
Thus, although hydroelectric power is a renewable and relatively clean energy source, it also has environmental and social impacts.
