उत्तर
- They possess high melting and boiling points.
- These solids do not conduct electricity because the ions are fixed in their lattice positions.
- They do conduct electricity in a molten state or when dissolved in water because the ions are free to move in the molten state or solution.
- Due to the presence of strong electrostatic forces of attraction, the ionic solids are hard. They are usually brittle.
- They have high heats of fusion. Their volatility is quite low.
- They are usually highly soluble in water and other polar solvents but almost insoluble in non-polar solvents (organic solvents).
- They typically exhibit high solubility in water and other polar solvents while demonstrating near insolubility in non-polar solvents (organic solvents).
- Despite the existence of ions, their ability to conduct electricity in the solid state remains notably limited. Nevertheless, they facilitate the conduction of electric current when in a fused state. They exhibit a limited capacity for conducting heat.
- They possess high densities.
