1. The sugarcane plant converts solar energy into chemical energy quite efficiently. When molasses, acquired during the manufacturing of sugar from sugarcane, is fermented, alcohol (ethanol) is produced.
2. The only products of ethanol burning in sufficient air are carbon dioxide and water. In this sense, ethanol is a cleaner fuel.

As a result, in some countries, it is used as an addition to improve the efficiency of gasoline. Such a fuel is known as gasohol.
