Things a Child Should Know or Be Capable of Before Entering Class 1

Before entering Class 1, a child does not need to know everything, but should have developed some basic physical, language, social, emotional, and cognitive skills. Some important abilities include:

  1. Physical Skills
    • Walk, run, jump, and climb confidently.
    • Hold a pencil correctly and draw simple shapes.
    • Use scissors safely and color within boundaries.
    • Eat independently and manage basic self-care (washing hands, using the toilet, dressing).
  2. Language and Communication Skills
    • Speak clearly and communicate basic needs.
    • Understand and follow simple instructions.
    • Listen attentively to stories and conversations.
    • Recognize and say their own name, parents' names, and address.
    • Identify letters of the alphabet and some common words.

    • Count numbers (at least up to 20 or more).
