The picture shown above shows a snake bite. Many times, a biting snake may also be non-venomous. However, the victim is also psychologically impacted. The tourniquet must be applied above the snake bite site. A rope, cloth, or handkerchief may be employed for this purpose to prevent venom, if present, from ascending and affecting important organs. The incision should be positioned next to the bite wound to facilitate the exudation of blood and the automatic expulsion of some venom. Although these are preliminary measures, the victim should be promptly sent to a trained physician for antivenin administration.
