Michael Faraday (1791–1867) was an English chemist and physicist whose foundational work in electromagnetism and electrochemistry (e.g., electromagnetic induction and the laws of electrolysis) was developed while working under Humphry Davy and W. T. Brande at the Royal Institution; his honours include the Royal Society’s Copley Medal (1832, 1838), Royal Medal (1835, 1846), Rumford Medal (1846), and the RSA’s Albert Medal (1866).
