उत्तर

  1. The ancestors of giraffes had short necks and fed mainly on grass.
  2. Due to environmental changes and scarcity of grass, giraffes had to reach the leaves of tall trees.
  3. They continuously stretched their necks to reach the leaves. Due to the use and disuse of organs, their necks became longer during their lifetime.
  4. This acquired character of a longer neck was passed on to their offspring.
  5. Over many generations, the gradual accumulation of this acquired character resulted in the evolution of the long-necked giraffe.
