A consumer court can pass one or more of the following directions to grant relief to a consumer who has been wronged:
- To rectify the defect in goods or the deficiency in the service.
- To replace the defective product with a new product free from defects.
- To refund the amount paid for the product or service.
- To provide reasonable compensation for any loss or injury suffered by the consumer due to the seller’s negligence.
- To impose punitive damages, if appropriate.
- To put an end to unfair or restrictive trade practices and prevent them in the future.
- To prohibit the sale of hazardous goods.
- To withdraw hazardous goods from the market.
- To stop the manufacture of hazardous goods and to avoid offering dangerous services.
- To award suitable costs to the relevant party.
