1. Cranial nerves arise from the brain. Spinal nerves arise from the spinal cord.
2. There are 12 pairs of cranial nerves. There are 31 pairs of spinal nerves.
3. They are numbered I to XII in Roman numerals. They are classified into five groups: cervical 8 pairs, thoracic 12 pairs, lumbar 5 pairs, sacral 5 pairs, and coccygeal 1 pair.
4. Cranial nerves are responsible for cerebral reflexes. Spinal nerves are responsible for spinal reflexes.
5. These are of three types: sensory, motor, and mixture. These are of three types: dorsal branch, the ventral branch, and the yogic nerve.
