उत्तर

  1. The historic Treaty of Camp David, which Egypt and Israel signed in March 1979, put an end to decades of animosity between the two countries. The treaty’s main provisions included a mutual agreement to end the state of war that had been in place since 1948.
  2. Israel agreed to leave the Sinai Peninsula completely, which it had controlled since the 1967 Six-Day War, as part of the agreement. This phased disengagement would eventually return the land to Egyptian authority.
  3. Egypt made history in the area by becoming the first Arab country to formally recognise Israel’s state in exchange. It also consented to remove its embargo of the Gulf of Aqaba and the Suez Canal, meaning Israeli ships would be able to freely navigate these vital waterways.
  4. To formally establish a state of peace between Egypt and Israel, the treaty also contained Egypt’s pledge to refrain from conflicts with Israel in the future. In addition, Egypt pledged to keep supplying Israel with oil from the Southern Sinai oil resources.
  5. U.S. President Jimmy Carter facilitated the deal, a significant diplomatic achievement, during the Camp David presidential retreat.
  6. As a result, the Arab League temporarily suspended Egypt, which led to a rise in internal dissent, particularly from extremist organisations. In spite of these obstacles, the Camp David Treaty was a tremendous step towards Middle Eastern security.
