1. The Nav Nirman Movement began in December, 1973 in Ahmedabad, when students demonstrated against an increase in the cost of food in the dorms at L.D. Engineering College.
2. Soon, the movement spread across the whole state as a protest against fraud, rising prices, and bad leadership by Chief Minister Chimanbhai Patel.
3. Students, teachers, and middle-class citizens formed the Nav Nirman Yuvak Samiti to coordinate protests.
4. Chief Minister Chimanbhai Patel had to step down on 9^th February, 1974, due to significant public unrest and support for the movement.
5. On 16^th March, 1974, the Gujarat Legislative Assembly was disbanded, and President’s Rule took over.
6. It was the first action of the people in independent India that led to the removal of an elected government.
