• Both are used for carrying forward messages.
• Both can be used anywhere in the world.

Differences:

• We can hear the voice of another person on phone but not in the case of the letter.
• Letters take some time to reach the destination. On phone, our message instantly reaches the other person.
• The phone is costlier than letters.
