उत्तर
A demotion is when an employee is assigned to a lower-ranking position that pays less. It describes the downward mobility of a worker with a lower status and pay in the organisational structure. The exact opposite of promotion is demotion. It is a severe form of punishment and a downgrading procedure. A demotion has an impact on an employee's status, career, and salary. It is hurtful and emotionally upsetting. Demotion should therefore only be applied sparingly and when it is absolutely required.
Demotions become necessary due to the following reasons:
- Adverse Business Conditions: A company may have to reorganise departments and lay off employees as a result of the recession and other crises. As a result, senior staff may have to take lower-level jobs until things return to normal, while younger staff may be laid off.
- Incompetence: Some workers who are promoted based on their seniority and prior performance might not be able to satisfy the demands of higher-level positions. These workers might be demoted to positions that better suit their expertise. Demotions therefore aid in fixing mistakes made in promotions.
- Technological Changes: Some workers might not be able to manage their tasks or adapt to new technology due to changes in work practices and technology. It might be necessary to demote these workers.
