Question

Browse through a week's newspaper and list all the external and internal conflicts that are taking place around the globe.

Answer 1

A newspaper-based list will vary from week to week. A representative list of conflicts commonly reported in world news is given below.

Type	Examples of conflicts	Nature of the conflict
External or international conflicts	Russia–Ukraine conflict	Interstate military conflict involving territory, sovereignty and security
External or international conflicts	Israel–Palestine conflict	Territorial, political and national conflict with regional and international involvement
External or international conflicts	Tensions involving China and Taiwan	Dispute over sovereignty and political status
External or international conflicts	India–Pakistan tensions	Disputes relating to borders, terrorism and Kashmir
Internal conflicts	Civil conflict in Sudan	Power struggle and armed conflict within a country
Internal conflicts	Conflict in Myanmar	Military rule, resistance and ethnic armed movements
Internal conflicts	Insurgency and separatist violence in parts of Africa	Struggles over political power, territory and ethnic identity
Internal conflicts	Civilian and ethnic conflicts in the Democratic Republic of the Congo	Armed groups competing for power and resources
Internal conflicts	Islamist insurgencies in parts of the Sahel region	Internal armed violence involving governments and militant groups

These examples show that contemporary security threats may be external or internal. In fact, internal wars constitute the overwhelming majority of armed conflicts in the world. The exact list should be updated by consulting the newspapers published during the selected week.
