It consists of 10 inkblots-symmetrical, abstract images-created using ink that is folded onto paper. The test is used to measure a person’s thought patterns, emotions, and unconscious processes.

In the test, the individual is shown the inkblots and asked to describe what they see. The responses are analyzed to gain insight into the person's emotional functioning, personality traits, and how they perceive the world. The idea is that people will project their own thoughts, feelings, and conflicts onto the ambiguous images, revealing aspects of their unconscious mind.
