उत्तर
- Biodiversity refers to the variety of living organisms found in a particular area. It exists because of the presence of different life forms and diverse ecosystems that support them. Biodiversity can be observed at three levels: genetic diversity, species diversity, and ecosystem diversity.
- Genetic diversity refers to the variations among individuals of the same species due to differences in their genes. Species diversity refers to the variety of plant, animal, and microbial species present in a region. Ecosystem diversity refers to the variety of ecosystems, such as forests, grasslands, deserts, and wetlands, found in an area.
- Human activities and developmental processes have posed serious threats to biodiversity. Therefore, special efforts are being made to conserve and restore threatened biodiversity. These measures include establishing wildlife sanctuaries, national parks, biodiversity hotspots, and biosphere reserves. In addition, various conservation projects are undertaken to protect endangered species and preserve the rich biodiversity of our planet.
