- There was an ideological battle between the two, and Jainism was eventually divided into Shvetambaras and Digambaras, led by Sthulabhadra and Bhadrabahu, respectively.
- Shvetambaras wore white clothes and covered their faces with some white cloth to avoid killing the smallest insects or germs that could enter the nose when breathing, whereas Digambaras did not believe in covering their bodies.
- Living without clothes, according to them, represented a separation from worldly pleasures and an avoidance of murdering living creatures.
