उत्तर

Frontal rainfall is common in mid-latitudes because this is where two different air masses, warm air and cold air, frequently meet. These air masses do not mix easily. When warm air meets cold air, the warmer (and lighter) air is forced to rise over the colder (heavier) air. As the warm air rises, it cools, and the moisture in it condenses to form clouds and eventually precipitation. This process, known as frontal lifting or frontal lift, causes cyclonic or frontal rainfall.

In mid-latitudes, which are also called temperate regions, the frequent interaction of warm and cold air masses from different directions creates front zones, leading to the common occurrence of frontal rainfall. The rainfall may be heavy in tropical cyclones and can last for several days, or lighter rain or drizzle in temperate depressions (like in Western Europe). The gradual lifting of warm air at the warm front results in steady rain over a longer duration, while the cold front causes rapid lifting and short, heavy showers.
