उत्तर
Agriculture is not the main occupation in the tundra because the region’s climate and soil make crop cultivation virtually impossible, winters are long and severe, the warmest month rarely rises above about 10°C and the growing season is extremely short, much of the ground is frozen as permafrost, and only low, hardy plants (mosses, lichens, sedges) occur all of which prevent normal farming. As a result, the sparse, mostly semi‑nomadic populations depend on hunting, fishing, and reindeer herding for food, clothing, and livelihood rather than on arable agriculture.
