उत्तर
White light (such as sunlight) is polychromatic in nature because it is not a single independent colour but a combination of many different colours and wavelengths. The word “poly” means many and “chromatic” means colour, signifying a multi-coloured light source. This polychromatic nature is clearly proven when a beam of white light passes through a glass prism; it immediately splits into a continuous band of seven constituent colours, commonly known as VIBGYOR (Violet, Indigo, Blue, Green, Yellow, Orange, and Red).
