  1. The wheatstone bridge is an important device used for the measurement of the resistance of a wire or of an electrolytic solution.
  2. It is made up of four arms with resistances R1, R2, R3, and X that are connected by a key K, a battery H, and a galvanometer G, as shown in the figure. 
  3. Resistance R2 is variable, while resistance X is an unknown resistance whose value is to be measured. Resistances R1 and R3 are known.
  4. With the aid of key K, the circuit is completed, and the variable resistance R2 is then set so that a null point, that is, no galvanometer deflection, is reached.
