Sr. No. Basis Absolute Poverty Relative Poverty
1. Meaning It refers to the number of people living below poverty line. It refers to poverty with respect to different people, regions or nations.
2. State/Condition Absolute poverty is a state of in which a person is deprived of basic needs. Relative poverty is a condition when a person is unable to reach the minimum average overall standard in the society.
3. Measurement It can be measured on two bases (a) Calories intake, (b) Monthly Consumption Expenditure. It can also be measured on two bases (a) On the basis of comparison and (b) Earning criteria in the form of per capita income.
