What is myopia and how it can be corrected?

Myopia, or short-sightedness, is a refractive eye defect in which a person can clearly see nearby objects, but distant objects appear blurred because the image of distant objects is formed in front of the retina instead of directly on it. This occurs when the eye lens is too curved or the eyeball is elongated, and it is corrected by using spectacles fitted with a suitable diverging (concave) lens having negative power, which diverges the incoming light rays so that they focus accurately onto the retina.
