उत्तर

Repulsion is the surest test of magnetism because the attraction can be caused between two unlike poles of the two magnets or between the magnet and magnetic substance such as iron, nickel etc. But repulsion is caused when two similar poles approach each other.

How will you test whether a given rod is made of iron or copper?

[Hint : Iron rod gets magnetised when placed near a bar magnet by magnetic induction, while copper rod does not get magnetised]

In following figure, draw at least two magnetic field lines between the two magnets.

(a)

Figure. shows a bar magnet placed on the table top with its north pole pointing towards south. The arrow shows the north-south direction. There are no other magnets or magnetic materials nearby.

Insert two magnetic field lines on either side of the magnet using  arrow head to show the direction of each field line.

Answer the following question.
Draw the pattern of magnetic field lines of
(i) a current-carrying solenoid and
(ii) a bar magnet.
List two distinguishing features between the two fields.

Define the agonic line.

Define the isoclinic line.

Describe two methods of determining the arrangement of the lines of force in the field close to a bar magnet. Give a brief explanation of each method.

What do you mean by the term lines of the magnetic field?

State whether true or false. If false, correct the statement.

Magnetic field lines always repel each other and do not intersect.

A circular loop placed in a plane perpendicular to the plane of paper carries a current when the key is ON. The current as seen from points A and B (in the plane of paper and on the axis of the coil) is anti clockwise and clockwise respectively. The magnetic field lines point from B to A. The N-pole of the resultant magnet is on the face close to
