During heavy rains, flowing water washes away nutrient-rich soil, which decreases soil fertility and can form channels or gullies in the fields, making farming difficult. In the same way, strong winds in dry and open areas carry away loose soil particles, reducing the land’s fertility and its ability to retain moisture. Wind and water erosion can also damage seeds and young plants. As a result, farmers may face lower crop production and have to spend more on fertilizers and soil conservation. In severe cases, the land may become unsuitable for cultivation. Therefore, water and wind erosion are major problems for farmers and can negatively affect their livelihoods.
