“I support the motion that the RTE Act is a realistic and achievable goal.
- In my opinion, education must be a right, not a privilege. I would like to draw attention to the millions of children from poor families who are now enrolled in schools because of this Act.
- My first argument in favor is the 25% reservation in private schools. I feel very strongly that sitting on the same bench bridges the gap between the rich and the poor.
- I submit that by making education a legal right, we are forcing the government to provide better school infrastructure, clean water, and toilets.
- Therefore, I strongly support the view that RTE is changing India for the better.
Speaker AGAINST the Motion (Opposition)
“I strongly oppose the view that the RTE Act is realistic and achievable.”
- My knowledgeable opponent has submitted that enrollment is up, but nothing could be more illogical than equating a child's name on a register with actual learning. Most 5th graders in rural areas cannot even read a 2nd-grade book!
- I fail to understand how this Act can succeed when thousands of schools lack proper classrooms, electricity, and qualified teachers.
- On the contrary, the 25% quota often leads to social discrimination against poor kids in private schools.
- Until we focus on the quality of teaching rather than just counting heads, it is unrealistic to say this Act is a success. Therefore, I firmly reject this motion.
