1. High fever; the pattern of fever varies depending on the type of malaria. In benign tertian and ovale tertian malaria, fever outbreaks occur every other day; in quartan malaria, every third day; whereas in malignant malaria, fever is irregular and may occur almost daily.
2. Headache and nausea.
3. Muscle pains.
4. Bouts of fever accompanied by shivering attacks (shivering usually does not occur in malignant tertian malaria).
