Testes help in the formation of male germ cells (sperms). A temperature lower than body temperature (about 2-3°C less) is required for sperm formation. 

Spermatogenesis occurs efficiently only at a slightly lower temperature than normal body temperature, which is why testes are present in the scrotum (outside the body). Higher temperatures can damage sperm formation.
