MGNREGS differs from other wage employment programmes, as it guarantees at least 100 days of wage employment in a financial year to one member of every rural household willing to do unskilled manual work. Other programmes do not provide such a legal guarantee of employment or a fixed number of workdays. This guarantee also includes a provision for unemployment allowance if work is not provided within 15 days.
