उत्तर

The psychoanalytic theory states that human behaviour is influenced by unconscious motives. Since direct methods of personality assessment cannot measure the unconscious aspects of behaviour, projective techniques were developed. These techniques are the most indirect methods of assessing personality and are used to understand hidden motives and emotions. They are based on the idea that when a person is given an unstructured or loosely structured stimulus, they project their inner feelings, needs, and desires onto it. Trained experts then interpret these projections.

Features:

  1. The test stimuli are largely unstructured and not clearly defined.
  2. The individual is not informed about the purpose, scoring method, or interpretation of the test before it is conducted.
  3. The person is assured that there are no right or wrong responses.
  4. Every response provides insight into significant aspects of the individual’s personality.
  5. The process of scoring and interpretation is time-consuming and subjective.
