उत्तर
In the electrolysis process for purifying an impure metal, a substantial block of the impure metal serves as the anode (connected to the positive terminal of the battery), while a slender strip of pure metal functions as the cathode (connected to the negative terminal of the battery). A water-soluble salt of the metal to be refined is utilised as the electrolyte. Upon the passage of current, impure metal dissolves off the anode and enters the electrolyte solution. Pure metal precipitates from the electrolyte onto the cathode.
