Give plausible explanation of the following:
Amides are less basic than amines.

The lone pair of nitrogen in amides is involved in resonance with the carbonyl group and can’t make a coordinate bond with a proton. But in an amine, there is only one pair of nitrogen atoms that can be protonated. This is why amides are less basic than amines.
