The Human Happiness Index, commonly discussed through the World Happiness Report, measures how people evaluate the quality of their own lives. People are asked to rate their life on a scale from 0 to 10, where 0 represents the worst possible life and 10 represents the best possible life. 

Happiness levels are closely associated with factors such as income per person, healthy life expectancy, social support, freedom to make life choices, generosity and freedom from corruption. These factors explain much of the difference in happiness levels between countries.

Relationship with Regional Development

There is generally a positive relationship between regional development and happiness. A developed region usually provides better employment, healthcare, education, infrastructure, security and public services. These conditions can improve people’s quality of life and increase happiness.

However, economic development alone does not guarantee happiness. A region may have a high income but still have problems such as inequality, pollution, poor health, lack of social support or corruption. Therefore, happiness should be considered along with economic, social and environmental development.

Conclusion:

A region can be considered truly developed when development improves not only income and infrastructure, but also the health, security, freedom, social well-being and overall quality of life of its people. The relationship is therefore positive, but it should not be treated as a simple cause-and-effect relationship.
