\[ = ( a^2 - a) + (3a - 3)\]
\[ = a(a - 1) + 3(a - 1)\]
\[ = (a + 3)(a - 1)\]
Now,
\[3 + ( - 1) = 2 \]
and
\[3 \times ( - 1) = - 3\]
