उत्तर

When force is applied on a liquid, the pressure in the liquid is transmitted in all directions. Hence, hydrostatic pressure does not have a fixed direction and it is a scalar physical quantity.

Find the pressure 200m below the surface of the ocean if pressure on the free surface of liquid is one atmosphere. (Density of seawater = 1060 kg/m3)

Assertion: The pressure at the bottom of the sea is lesser than that near the surface.
Reason: The pressure exerted by a liquid depends upon the depth of the liquid and density of the liquid.

Pressure is a scalar quantity because ______.

  1. it is the ratio of force to area and both force and area are vectors.
  2. it is the ratio of the magnitude of the force to area.
  3. it is the ratio of the component of the force normal to the area.
  4. it does not depend on the size of the area chosen.
